We all have photos of our families, and captured in some of these snaps are the houses where we have lived. With surprise we recall details that had been forgotten over the years, and our children ask, “Is that where you lived?”
I remember drawing my great grandparents Herne Bay house from early photos. I gave this sketch to my delighted grandmother for Christmas. As a girl of eighteen, this was a pivotal moment which inspired me to continue sketching old villas around Auckland. As with most artist’s, my artwork has developed over the years, to into a sharper, graphical style.
Commissioning a drawing of a house or building is something unique. It’s a tangible and personal record captured in an artwork, a lasting image of somewhere special. It may be enjoyed by many generations of family and a timeless artwork to be shared with friends.
In a broader commercial sense, may of my illustrations document properties for archival purposes, and have been commissioned for commercial use, by a number of well known public institutions.
These bespoke artworks, make attractive additions to private collections, with a number of my clients requesting a series, to represent their property. These have included sculptures, landscaping, particular views and architectural details on buildings.
They also make tremendous gifts for those who are hard to buy for.

You never know what may happen. I once lived in a lovely villa which was built in 1906. In later years this house was demolished to make way for a housing development. Sadly I have only a few old photos left.
Another old beauty was destroyed in the Christchurch earthquakes. I thought it would always be there for me to remember, but now it’s gone for good.
I have taken great pleasure in illustrating hundreds of homes over the years, and seeing the joy in the faces of people as they received the finished artworks.
